Blurb : Throbbing with non-stop excitement, Shiva in the City of Nectar sweeps across Heaven, Earth and the Underworld, narrating the exploits of the mysterious and powerful blue-throated god.

One after another, the tales unfold the follies of ancient devas, asuras, sages, men and mythical beasts. And through them all, Shiva blithely takes on the guise of beggar, saint, monarch, merchant, fisherman, hunter, warrior and woodcutter; walking through the three worlds to slay rampaging demons, perform his Dance of Bliss and embrace good and bad alike.

Shiva is portrayed in all his multi-faceted mystique – the tender lover who woos and weds Goddess Meenakshi; the eternal Guru who dispenses wisdom; the fierce avenger whose third eye flashes fire; the generous benefactor who showers blessings on his devotees; and, above all, the gentle prankster who embodies the essence of Vedic faith.

My View :

 Stories driven from Ancient India,

Stories of Lord Shiva,

Stories of Lord Shiva’s devotees,

Stories from City of Nectar,

Stories extracted from different facets of Lord Shiva,

Stories of Wisdom and gain,

Stories worthy to attain.

Stories picked by the authoress from the city of Nectar are all aesthetic in nature. All the fifty-four divine tales extracted from Ancient India is full of exciting flavours. The role of Shiva in the lives of ancient people is very beautifully portrayed in this book. Stories will teach you the art of attaining wisdom and will entertain you with its charisma at its best. When one story warms you and holds you till it ends, another waits to welcome you at its doorstep. One after another, the pile of enticing story reaches your doorstep to thrill you.

When I started reading this book,I didn’t know that this book would serve me stories I was unaware of.When I first get in touch with this book, thoughts that clouded my mind was that it would cast stories of Gods in a precise manner, which are already known to people.Of course, one who have great knowledge of Ancient culture and history, are aware of this stories, but for a newbie like me, these stories are surely a bunch of fun.

Covering fifty-four stories in 200 pages book with a condition of doing justice with all of them requires a lot of  work  to be done. While narrating the stories precisely, she never forgets to maintain the charm of the story and providing a required ambiance to the story. How easily she has managed to excel in all the aspects of making this book a flawless one, compels reader to complete the book at the fastest pace.

Seeing the strong command on language of author’s, a novice could hitch to start the journey, but for an ardent reader it would be a bliss to experience her writing style. The words chosen by her could easily paint the picture back in the mind of readers of all the happenings. With a hefty bunch of stories in reader’s hands, they get a great chance to see different facets of Lord Shiva in a single book along with some fascinating stories.

As this 54 stories involve a lot of characters, one needs to keep a note of each one of them while going through the story, otherwise he/she will end up mixing the stories.Only if one has strong knowledge of the history of Devas’ period, then he /she could cover the journey with ease, otherwise it could be a tough task to cover the journey smoothly.Although at the end character sketch is given, but it was hard to remember their role and their identities in the story.

A great read which opens up your chance to ride with Lord Shiva, and to know how he contributes in lives of different people trailing along his own life. Wondrous read!
