Review of Arjun

Title : Arjun

Author : Dr. Shinde Sweety

Cover of Arjun without a doubt by Dr. Shinde Sweety

Blurb : I knew there was nothing poetic about death.
I knew not that the most horrific battles are fought off the battlefield.
Arjun: The idealist in a non-ideal world; the warrior whose deadliest opponent was his conscience.
History forgot his voice, but misquoted his silence.

My self-esteem originates from me and ends in me.
Why does your honor depend on me? Find your own.

Draupadi: The untamed tigress, the fragrant flame, the unbridled spirit.

Power does not justify sin. Power is not virtue.
Virtue is that which lasts in spite of power.
Krishn : The enigma whose unique ideology churned the battlefield into a quest for Truth.

The Missile …The Trajectory … The Vision.
The trio that makes for the core of The Mahabharata.

This is their saga.
Insightful, visceral and candid.

Find ‘other’ famous Arjuns; compare Arjun vis-a-vis Achilles and Alexander; Explore Myths of Mahabharata.

All this and much more in ‘Arjun: Without A Doubt’.

My View :

After Shiva,Rama and endless inspiring and interesting stories of mythological heroes ,comes another mythological story in the list, and this time it is Arjun. What my concern before starting this story was I knew little about Arjuna, and I was wishing that authoress spare some time to Arjun’s background,so that I could cover this journey easily, and so do other readers like me.All the worries escaped from my mind, when I got to know that it’s just Mahabharata being told from two different perspectives-Arjun’s and Draupadi’s.

The hue that these two characters enamels on the epic story is a new experience. As the season’s unfold, and as both Arjun and Draupadi keep on covering the journey together, where their expressions and reactions walk side by side, this new twist to get in touch with the story all over again gives a fresh flavour to the story.Knowing all the known facts, and going through it all over again through a different angle plays the role of attention-seeker.

In the beginning, it was a bit of a task to switch the narration coming from two sides so often. But eventually one gets accustomed to the nature of author’s presentation, and gets friendlier with the echoes of two narrators. As the narrating style of the authoress is captivating and is good enough to get through the story, her imaginations and her narrating style compliments each other very-well.

There’s always good amount of excitement involves when an offer comes to you to go through the story, you know in advance. What author would bring to the story? How he/she would make it sound different? And what little twists and turns they would bring to the story? All the questions would keep the interest alive in order to find out the answers. And the same happened while I was going through this book. Of course, there are some minor hindrances in the journey, but at the end when you sum up the time spent with the book, you would find the journey interesting and engaging.

Dealing with the characters who ruled reader’s mind from a good time is one of a hefty task. And while authoress has taken this chance, she has done justice with the characters apart from a few sections.

Review of Married Virgins

Title : Married Virgins

Author : Rituparna Deshmukh

Blurb: In Married Virgins Akira, deeply in love with Usain, dreams to create her beautiful world with him. Raghav, her colleague and best friend, loves her one sided unconditionally. Akira sees her dream world shattering when her parents refuse to give their permission to marry Usain who they think is a psychopath, tainted and useless. Akira tries to make them agree but all her attempts prove to be futile. Usain’s psychotic behaviour made the issue even worse.

When all hopes were lost, she decided to keep her failed love sacred and decided to remain a ‘virgin’ throughout her life. But how would it be possible when she has to marry someone to keep her parents honour? How would her would-be-husband agree not to touch her when ‘sex’ is an integral part of marriage?

She found the solution in Raghav who was her sole companion during all this misery. She proposed marriage to Raghav with a secret celibacy promise; they decided they wouldn’t get intimate with each other after marriage.

The story goes on to explore whether Akira and Raghav manage to stay virgins after marriage without getting intimate.

How they respond to their family when it comes to having a child?

What happens when Akira herself wants to be a mother while keeping the promise intact? What happens when psycho Usain enters the scene once again knowing their secret?

My View :

Reading the blurb, it was quite hard to keep yourself at blocking mode, regulating yourself to not to go through this story, as it speaks of excitement to endure the journey with the traces authoress has shown in the  blurb. With the concept in mind, author doesn’t only brings an interesting story for readers, but she let readers a chance to feel and enter into the protagonist’s lives to live this story. The story from the blurb might seemed like a common one, but the questions she throws at you, leave you with no option but to find them out while connecting the dots.

The way she narrated events felt like she is none other than Raghav itself, not letting herself open up to pour her thoughts.I felt little amount of hesitation in the narration where authoress wanted to tell so much, but something pulled her back. But as Raghav steadily tried to came out of his world and tried to build relationship with his colleagues, authoress too started to make a healthy relationship with the reader.Through her words she swiftly clutches reader’s hands and finishes the journey serving so much to the reader when he/she approaches towards the end.

Without a shadow of doubt, the story could be covered in a precise manner, merely taking some 250 pages or so.But after going through the story,I was not sure that if it would’ve taken a short-cut, it could be this healthy in nature. Also, she doesn’t beat around the bush, and her words just roam around the story, it was not a burden for me to cover the far-stretched story.Instead, this far-stretched story, made me more comfortable with the happenings and a friendly relationship established while covering the journey.

The sudden turn of events she overtures in the book, hooks reader at its best.Once you get friendlier with her narration fashion and covers 150 pages, you would find yourself so engaged that your mind budge you to find answers no matter how far the journey is.While pouring out her thoughts in simplest possible manner, her words somehow manages to enter your heart and force you to accompany the protagonists.

There are some missing words at some places, and some grammatical errors here and there, apart from these hitches, the book will take you to a ride of emotional turmoils twisting the story at very possible angle.

An interesting and engaging read!

Review of Personal Excellence

Compiler : Ken Shelton

“Personal Excellence” is a self-help book in which articles by various brilliant writers or people owing great personality has been amalgamated and served as a treat to all the readers , to feed their brain with nutritious thoughts and make it healthy. Some of the authors who contributed in this book are : Brian Tracy, Deepak Chopra, Ken Blanchard, Zig Ziglar, Wayne Dyer and so on.It’s like many flavors on the same piece of cake.

As the back cover says ” This priceless collection of particles includes the most respected authorities on personal and professional development. From Michael Jordan to Mary Kay Ash to Pope John II , you’ll read about-how you, as well as every other person, possess the potential to achieve and improve the quality of your life, how facing yourself is always better than running from yourself, and how feeling free is so fundamental to human nature. This insightful and inspiring book will help you in five areas: preparation, performance, recovery, life values and ongoing growing.”

The cover of the book gives a professional touch to this book with a very simple design ,and so do the title. Both the work reflecting of the content it holds.Coming to the blurb, which is a precise one, speaks of exactly what a reader seeks in the blurb of the book.

The highness in author’ s thoughts is lucidly shown in their words.Their words are reflecting a positive attitude and they want the same attitude to be a part of every reader’s life. One of the good thing about this book is you don’t need to read this book at one sit.Feed your brain slowly and steadily with one author at a time grasping the more out of his/her article. One more thing I liked about this book is author’s bio has been given so precisely in one or two liners.Usually, I have seen them of half a page sometimes which is for me of no use.I usually don’t read them.

The content has been divided into five section: Preparation, Ongoing growth, Life Values, Recovery and Performance where every section has been handled quite well. The language used by the authors are simple and any reader could find their place in it.Such books wants you to dissolve every single word in your brain and make the best possible result out of them.Such books work as an helping-hand to many need mind and for those who pursue great dreams and wish for their success and wants to prepare themselves for the same. For novices, who are looking for self-help/inspirational/ motivational book, this book could be a tough task.As for novices, real life examples plays very well and is easy for them to relate.

This book is inspiring, but not as much as I was expecting from it after reading some quality self-help/motivational/inspirational books by Jaico Publishing House. I wish if articles have been served with example, it could have been more inspirational.Such articles are better suited in newspaper and magazines. But, when it comes to book, reader seeks for something which they couldn’t get in newspaper or magazines. Some modifications to the articles would do the trick.Althogether, it was not a waste of time, good to go through it once and gain from it as much as you can.

Review of Postcards from Memory

Author: Samir Satam

Poetry creates such essence that holds the prowess to woo heart as well as mind, and leave its lasting effect.Samir Satam’s debut book “Postcards from Memory: an anthology of poems”, is one such book that took me to a different journey of imaginations.A book that sends you many enjoyable postcards from poet
‘s witty mind.

As the back cover says ” Every moment that passes is not coming back.

Yes, there might be moments in future, like
the one you just experienced.

But it’s not going to be the same again.

The one that was, was one like itself. It cannot be replaced. It’s gone… Long gone…

Dissolved in this crazy tasting, highly intoxicating drink of life.

In an attempt to capture these bits and pieces that keep dissolving to give their distinct flavors to this colorful cocktail, I end up scribbling on my pad.

This book is a bouquet of such moments that started with my mindless scribbling and ended up in verses.

Sweet, Bitter,Sour, Sublime… Each piece has a taste of its

In this book, poet captures special moments of his life which he says can never come again.Through chords of memory, he presents various nuances of life in a simple and compact way.Not so complicated topics he chose to express his feelings, but the topics he chose are likeable and aesthetically presented. All of the poems are adored with simplicity and captures the images of our surroundings.

Poetries are divided into sections where each poem displays its own flavor and fun, and one could feel nostalgia as the poems he has complied in this book could also be a part of anyone’s life. The adjectives used for festooning ,and the comparison poet does is commendable and is heart warming.Comparing clouds to balloons of condensed water to different cakes with an eye of an innocent child ,he succeeded to pour out the feelings of his heart.A lovely book which is able to touch my heart and most importantly, it made me to write something and dwell in the world of emotions and imaginations.

Indeed ,a mood swinging book for all poetry lovers. Also, one who hasn’t tried his hands on poetry, and complains about not getting the meaning ,and couldn’t able to conclude them, this could be the book for you where simplicity in words and thoughts is woven all around. A light read book which one could easily complete in a single go ,and enjoy its delicious taste as the poems of this books are very easy to understand and has the power to drench your heart with feelings of love, pain, innocence, death and many.

Review of Hypnotizing Maria

Hypnotizing Maria 2

Author- Richard Bach

‘Hypnotizing Maria: The secret of a Meaningful Life’ by Richard Bach, is a smart book, different from other books, knitted with great imaginative skills and portrayed in a wise writing fashion.

As the back cover says-‘In the teaching fable,Richard Bach explores both flight and metaphysics. In the opening moments of the story,we meet Jamie Forbes, a pilot who guides a woman into landing a plane safely after her husband loses consciousness. She later claims it was like being hypnotized.Richard Bach,in this his twentieth book, has written a compelling fable about reality and suggestion.

Bach explores deep spiritual issues in this slim volume. Our true nature,it seems,is not bound by space and time.We live in a world full of appearances. If we stop accepting them as reality, the book suggests, these appearances will cease to be our reality. We enter this world to explore,to have fun,to learn ,and to have shared experiences with the people we care about, but most of all to learn how to love and love again.’

I found the writing style a bit different and I would say it: blunt type.
No unnecessary description is entraped in this book.It is a short, sleek and up to the point tale giving anxious vibes at every next page. For typical Indian readers, this book could be a bit difficult to understand.I’m not talking about the story,I’m saying about the writing fashion.

Philosphical and intelligent conversations pulls the chain of this book.Author came up with such an interesting and out of the blue concept which could easily grasp reader’s attention. On the other hand, the message it provides hold its epitome to stand one among the bests.

This book illustrates such concept which will make your mind go round and round and make you ponder about its existence. In my case,I realized it to be true and a part of everything I do.Well, what is this thing-for sure, as the name depicts something related to ‘Hypontism’.But how? To know, you should read this book. You would feel great to know such an interesting fact of life.

Review of Zindagi Ke Martbaan Se

Author- Kuhoo Gupta

‘Zindagi ke martbaan se: Poetic reflections from the jar of life’ by Kuhoo Gupta is an esoteric book which gave me essence of minute- minute facets of life in some beautiful and decored lines.

Poetries are something which is the gracious gift to the heart, one could give.Either writing or reading poetry both could heal the wounds of heart.Kuhoo Gupta’s this compilation of poetry seems to heal those wounds when heart fails to blossom who used to blossoms forever.

As the back cover says-‘ “Zindagi Ke Martbaan Se” is a poetry collection written in conversational language- Hindi mixed with Urdu and English. The poems are inspired by a plethora of topics like love, nostalgia, rememberance, random human emotions, natural beauty and spirituality.’

I found title apt for the content.Through this book, poetess reflected some touchy and unforgettable moments of her life in the form of poetries. From diminutive poems to some not so long poems, poetess manages to pour her heart inking her pen with imagination of her eyes.Pain of longingness is lucidly shown in the poems.

The poems would able to touch reader’s heart and one could easily co-relate with the poems in the book. The easy language used in the poems make it more sober and easy to understand.Though some urdu words are used in the book, keeping this in mind, poetess provided glossary below the poems for readers’ comfort.

Some lines give radiant essence of the feelings whereas I felt like some verses need to be write more and needs to go deep down.In short, this book would able to get reader’s attention and grab their interest with the honesty poetess shown towards her heart.

The writing fashion is very simple and so the words used, which make it an easy read.Though this is the debut book by the authoress but she knows very well how to connect with readers.
