Review of The Complete Short Stories of Sherlock Holmes

Author- Arthur Conan Doyle

‘The Complete Short Stories of Sherlock Holmes’ by Arthur Conan Doyle is a treasury for me.A widened treasury box where fifty-six different and my all time favourite treasures are kept.

As the back cover says-‘A selection of most exciting adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr.Watson.
The deerstalker cap,cape-backed overcoat, and the pipe. The gaslit, cobblestone streets and fog swirling in from England’s imperial seas into 221 B Baker Street.Sherlock Holmes are legendary detective created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle needs no introduction.Ever since the first appearance of Sherlock Holmes in the story “A scandal in Bohemia” there has been no stopping.Generations of his fans has been reading, fascinated ,as he employed his prodigious deductive and intuitive skills to crack the toughest of cases from the barest of clues.

Indeed, the stories of Holmes’ adventures are a perennial source of inspiration to lovers of detective fiction, for Sherlock Holmes elevated criminal investigation to a fine art.

This book offers complete 56 stories,a comprehensive sampling of the master sleuth’s detective skills.Written in an inimitable style by that multi-faceted personality and raconteur par
excellence.Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, this concise volume will delight all Holmes-lovers.’

In this compilation, each story speaks of new twists and at the end you will be jaw dropped, finding how graciously the narrartion and plot are stitched.

This book is basically divided into five sections-

Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes contains twelve short stories, where story is of around fifteen to twenty pages.Though the stories are short but it has all the spice a suspense-thriller story should have.My most favourite story in this section is ‘The Boscombe Valley Mystery’.

The second section Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes consists of eleven stories where each story plugged with a different twist. The stories in the second section are quite longer than the first one or of same size.My most favourite story from this section is ‘The Crooked Man’.

The third section The Return Of Sherlock Holmes consists of thirteen stories. This section holds the best thriller part.As the Sherlock Holmes returns, along with him the truck loaded with suspense and thrill arrives and play their dynamite role.My favourite story from this section is ‘The Adventure of the Missing Three Quarter.’

The fourth section His Last Bow consists of eight tales. This section holds it own level of twists and turns which could make the readers mind to go zig-zag.My favourite story from this section is ‘The Adventure of Wisteria Lodge 1. The similar experience of Mr. John Scott Eccles
2. The Tiger of San Pedro’

The fifth and last but not the least section The case book Of Sherlock Holmes consists of twelve humorous tales. This is the perfect collection to end this book.My favourite story from this section is ‘The Adventure of Sussex Vampire’.

The only thing I don’t like about this book is-small font size.It becomes difficult for me to read. But as the content holds the power so I couldn’t restrained myself from reading.Suspense-thriller-Sherlock Holmes and Arthur Conan Doyle’s lovers-this is a must read book for you.
