The Secrets of the Dark

‘Fantasy’, the genre I love to go through is rare to find by Indian authors, and when I got some I never drop the chance to go through it. “The Secrets of the Dark…the debt of blood is never repaid’, by Arka Chakrabarti is one such book I’d loved to spend time with. This is a story wind up with mystery, suspense, affection and numerous scenes comprising of battles supported by author’s wit. This is the story of the mystery of The Seven and the Prophet and the revenge that took place along with the unveiled facets of the story that keeps on revealing as the story proceeds.

As the back cover says:”

Is one born with his destiny or does he forge it?

In the mystical land of Gaya, two prophecies bind the fate of men and empires alike. The Destroyer born from the royal seed on the Land of Setting Sun shall bring the empires down, or so has been foretold.

In between the Destroyer and the world stand the Seven Guardians of Gaya, guarding the realm of man. A king, a father, defies the Seven and fate itself to save the last drop of his blood and prince Agni grows in the Land of the Rising Sun, exiled from his own people, unaware of his past.

Losing the woman he loved most to the shadows in the dark, Agni is thrown into a whirlpool of events that he neither knows, nor understands. His quest for vengeance brings him to the doorstep of a secret that will shatter the very foundation of beliefs of the world.

Can Agni avert his destiny? Can he uncover the truth about the Seven and the prophecies, now hidden behind a veil of ignorance?

The secrets of the dark are sometimes so terrible that they are better left unsaid.”

From the name of places to the name of characters everything has a charm enveloped around, giving perfect ambience required for a fantasy fiction. The storyline is fantastic and the way it has implemented very-well showcases author’s knowledge about fantasy. He knows very-well when to unveil which facet and how anecdotes needed to be narrated.

A moderate writing fashion is adopted by the author which goes very smoothly with the story. I like the way simplicity has been maintained throughout with lucid narration style. Along with a friendly writing style, this book serves a relatable and fruitful story that holds reader till he/she reaches the last page.

The story travels on a single track, it doesn’t divert from its path and so the reader’s attention doesn’t divert anywhere. Albeit a fantasy story it is, but for me it is a light read. Description of events has been done in a lucid manner and reader could easily visualize the scenes. Along with that, reader could go hand in hand with the story, as the story seems relatable and entertaining the same time.

If I talk about the downfalls of the book, a very few grammatical and printing errors here and there which could be avoided as it doesn’t hamper in the reading journey. Articulation of sentences at some places could be mended. Apart from that everything is at their respective places.

An interesting and engaging read and specially recommended to fantasy lovers out there who also seeks for a light read along with a crisp of suspense.
