Blurb : Thicker Than Blood is the poignant tale of a husband and wife who fight adversities to keep their marriage going.

Young and beautiful Mayuri wife of affluent businessman Vimal is crushed as she fails to conceive even with medication. Deeply in love with his wife Vimal gives in to her plea to seek help through reproductive technology. The treatments tax the couple physically and emotionally straining their relations.

While Vimal grapples with his business challenges Mayuri plods along restless depressed painfully aware of her growing age and convinced she cannot be content unless she has a child. In her desperation she turns to religion and even hurtles to the edge of infidelity.

What makes a couple s life complete? Are children the indispensable glue binding a family? And does motherhood and fatherhood have to be biological?

My View: Thicker Than Blood is a story of a woman and her quest for a child. The story brings out a desire of a woman to be a mother and how her incomplete desires forces her to go down to any step. Previously, when women were not blessed with child, Pooja, Hawan and many such steps were taken in order to fulfill the desire of the family. Authoress in this book brings light upon how a modern woman can take steps to a great extent to fulfill her desire.

In the beginning, the story doesn’t give sure shot feeling as where the story is heading. It sometimes speaks about her treatment and sometimes God knows what which to me doesn’t seem like appropriate content to be fed to reader’s in order to provide a comfortable ambience to the readers. It was a case of ‘maybe’ or ‘maybe not’ the time spent on this book would be worth.

The theme chosen by the authoress to write on is good and something different to deal with. She has chosen such a topic which could showcase various modes and she has shown some shades in the story as well. Judging as a whole, she serves a different recipe to the readers where the ingredients involved  in the story are of mediocre in nature. Where some increases the amount of spice in the recipe others simply fails to prove their worth.

The language she has used to describe the moments, the situations and the feelings is very well and artistically designed. She has her way with words. She could roll the words in her way and can give life to dead words. The way she tunes the feelings of the protagonist makes a deep impact on reader’s mind.  She narrates some of the events with so intense that it felt like happening all in real. One could feel and relate with the same and enjoy the moments she so daringly addresses.

At various nodes, tiny events participated in between and I couldn’t figure out till the end why they are a part of this story. When such events becomes a part of the story, the excitement that the story creates so hardly vanishes into thin air and forces reader to skip the content to see if there is something worthy ahead to read. She so hurriedly changes track that it became hard for me to keep a track what actually is happening. What pinned me most in the journey is unnecessarily stretched  content. If avoided,it could have been a different experience altogether.
