As the blurb of the book goes: So begins Maya’s story in the picturesque countryside of Maharashtra, where she grows up amidst cruelty and domestic violence, being an unwanted girl-child. Yet, like a lonesome beacon beset by sinister wilderness, she pursues her dreams of reaching the stars with her tiny wings. One night, a twist of fate triggers a series of incidents, when she loses everything she had—even her virginity.

Severely traumatized after her father’s death, her mother’s imprisonment, and her own gang-rape, Maya finds herself all alone in the streets of Mumbai, with wolves lurking around for raw flesh. She’s weary, but not wary. She has no sense of the fate that awaits her. What follows, would change her life forever, as also yours, as her heart wrenching, yet inspiring story echoes through time.

‘Her Resurrection’ bravely paints an appalling picture of the society. Heartbreaking, hopeful and immensely healing at the same time, this emotional rollercoaster through dreams, tragedy and triumph is a moving tribute to womankind. Are you ready to embark on a transformational journey with Maya?

My view :

The cover very eloquently whispers about the sufferings of a woman, pain evidently lurking in her eyes and her tears speaking of an untold story. First of all, I appreciate the art done by Amol Karambe (cover designer) to provide such a beautiful touch to the cover which neatly resembles the theme of the story.

‘Her Resurrection: A survivor’s Journey of Emancipation, Reclamation and Redemption’, is a story of Maya’s survival amidst so much pain and stones and how she resurrected herself from the debris she has fallen into or was forced to be fall. Title is appropriate for the story, short and up to the mark, and supports the story perfectly. Ten on ten for the title cover and blurb.

Talking about the storyline, the story traverses the curvy edges of a village girl Maya, her story of pain and bravery .Although at some turns, it was quite predictable which turn it will take, but the way it has been presented before readers holds reader’s attention. The story just not reveals the pain of a girl but also showcases the brutal minds of the people who witness her pain and what they care about is just their safety or pleasure.

Series of episodes are stitched into this book, and when you cover the events one after another, you would get more hooked to it. After covering one-fourth of the journey, the book swiftly hold me in its arms and I without any pause, completed the rest. The moment I finished the book, the amount of life author has pricked in this book, made me feel involved and I could feel some events through heart.

The way author has cunningly used his knowledge of literature to bring life to words is really appreciable. His way of portraying particular incidents and moments in a unique way touched my heart. The events are flawlessly stitched festooned with the articulation author has provided to the story. The writing fashion is matured enough to give readers a constant and smooth flow to cover the journey.

Coming towards the downfall of the book, beginning is a bit dull, not strong enough to hold reader’s attention. At places, description is unnecessarily provided, but that happens at very few places, so this thing doesn’t hamper much in the reading journey. Apart from this thing, I enjoyed reading this book and the emotions author has stirred into it.
