The Count of Monte Cristo is a classical literature published between the years 1844-1845. The story displays the adventure played in the life of protagonist. The title of the book suggests that the book is about the journey to Monte Cristo in order to fulfill some desire. The book is full of adventure, action, emotions and love.

Life is the web of moments which are played in everyone’s growing journey. It may be sometimes bad and sometimes good. It may happen that sometimes someone harms you without no reason and then it can make you hate that person. Not only hate sometimes people are so fed up that the feeling of taking revenge is ignited in their hearts.

The story begins with the description of the protagonist named Edmond Dantes. Edmond is a handsome sailor and presumed for a successful future with eminent name. Edmond will be going to become the captain of the ship and is going to marry a girl named Mercedes. On the day of wedding he is arrested for a crime that he had never committed. He had then put for imprisonment. He had spent 14 years of his life in jail.

Dantes tried to attempt suicide in the jail. Then Edmond becomes friend of Abbe Faria who was a priest. Abbe Faria taught him language, culture and science. Abbe Faria’s condition was not good and because of that he died. But before dying he told Dantes about the hidden treasure of Monte Cristo Island. Dantes manages to get out of the prison so that he can take revenge against his enemies. For that he then exchanged the Abbe’s dead body with his and placed himself in the sack in place of Abbe.

Then the sack has been thrown in the sea by the guards. That sack has been collected by the smugglers of a ship. The smugglers found Dantes in the sack and saved him. Later on they make Dantes their partner. One day when they reached Monte Cristo Island Dantes imitated that he is sick and he will spent some time on the island itself and told the smugglers to continue their journey without him. After that Dantes goes on searching for the treasure. He successfully occupied the treasure and after that he went to Marseille to take revenge from his enemies.

Apart from this there is lot more in the book to read which is interesting and compelling. Story rides around different paths. Every chapter unleashes a new phase. The author portrays all the events in a good manner. The story splashes the feeling of jealousy, treachery and revenge. Reader may get feeling of intrigue while reading some of the chapters.

The title of the story derives the feeling of intrigue just after reading it. Reader may take the meaning of title wrong or may be right but still title doesn’t unfold what the story is about. When the reader goes on reading the story then every part of the story is uncovered in reader’s mind making the title clear. The plot of the story is good. The writing style is easy which provides simple and facile reading journey. The narration and flow of the story is good and had kept me hooked all the time.

The only downfall which I found is that the some of the characters seemed unimportant in the story. So weaving such characters can fluctuate reader’s mind while reading the story.

An enjoyable read.
