Title : A Tale Of Two Cities

Author : Charles Dickens

A Tale of Two cities is a classical story written by Charles Dickens and was originally published in the year 1859. It is a story set in London and Paris. The title clearly suggests that the story describes situations and events related to two cities. The story is played under the French revolution.

In the beginning of the story a man named Jarvis Lorry receives a message to “Wait at Dover for Ma’ amselle” by a man named Jerry working in Tellson’s bank the same bank in which Lorry work. But Jarvis was unable to get what that message means and was in deep fearful thoughts. Later on he came to know that the message was sent by a lady named Lucie Manette.

Lucie was an orphan child but she was amazed to know that her father is still alive and was living in France. Lucie and Lorry went to Mr. Ernest Defarge and inquired about Mr. Manette. Then they came to know that Mr. Manette makes shoes in a single room in which he is locked. Lucie then took his father to London. Lucie helped his father to recover and to catch his senses back.

Then the story took a leap of five year and a case against Mr. Charles Darney is acknowledged. The case whirls around and Darney was given a verdict of Not Guilty. Charles and Lucie met in strange situations years back. Later wards Charles and Lucie fell in love with each other. The story twirls around so many ups and downs in the love relationship of the protagonist i.e. Charles Darney. In the end a man named Sydney cartoon who was a bad human proved to be a good human as he is responsible for setting happiness in their lives by sacrificing his life for Charles Darney.

The story is very precisely un-wrapped by the author. Some of the events swifts rapidly but the story didn’t prove to be confusing and didn’t move on unnecessary tracks. The story is played well by the author’s pen. On one side there is love and on the other side there is revolution both are playing their own recordings and making the story a nice read. A story comprises of love and sacrifice.

The end of the story was really unpredictable, but as a reader keep on reading the story, every phase knitted by the author will be clearly visible in reader’s mind. The characterization done by the author was impressive and it was quite realistic. The narration of the story and flow of the both are copacetic. Author had adopted an easy writing style which provides an in-complex reading journey.

Some parts of the book are attention holding. But there is lack of humor in the book and a less Drama. Although the story is good as every puzzle and event related to it are being solved and unleashed in reader’s mind.

A light read.  Recommended to every reader out there.
